Chicago Canine Rescue's Mutt Strut

Today I had lots of fun. I met a really cute dog on my morning walk and we wrestled and ran around. I was so excited! He was young and blond and I hope I get to see him again really soon.

Then this afternoon I went to Chicago Canine Rescue's Mutt Strut. It's like a big event with a block long parade. It's not a long walk like the Stray Cat Strut for Tree House Humane Society. That's a five mile walk. That's a long walk. Is there an all you can eat pancake buffet at the end? No? Then I'm not doing it. Things I would walk five miles for: an all you can eat sausage, pancake, rib, cake, ice cream, rabbit, or steak buffet; a lifetime supply of Polar Pups, TriPom chews, or pig hearts; a canine cooler bed that can't be punctured by cat claws; a cheese fest. Maybe. Anyway, I was there with Safe Humane Chicago. Here's a picture of me at the SHC booth.
I'm wearing my SHC vest and my fancy Barker & Meowsky collar and leash. There were lots of people and dogs at the Mutt Strut. I met a Great Dane. Um, that's a really big dog. I met a Great Pyrenees too. He wasn't as big as the Great Dane, but he was really furry. There was even a cat there. Her name was Harley. She was in a stroller and someone had dressed her up. Here's a picture of me with the cat.
Does she look happy in that get up? No, she doesn't. Here's a picture of me trying to help her take it off.
See how much happier she looks? Her ears aren't back anymore. I met lots of kids too. Here's a picture of me with a little girl dressed up like a cat.
It's not a very good picture because she's starting to get up, but she sat with me for a long time and stroked my ears. Here's a picture of me with Superman.
He's not as big as I expected. A lot of other people came over to say hi and pet me too. One woman fed me a cupcake! Mmmmmmm! I liked her a lot! A man gave me some treats and one of the women at the SHC booth gave me a piece of sausage from her pizza. Mmmmmmmmm! PIZZA! I would also walk five miles for an all you can eat pizza buffet. There was a cake eating contest but I didn't get picked for it. I would've won a cake eating contest. I think I should get a cake to practice with so I'm ready for next time. I give the Mutt Strut 3 Paws. If I had gotten cake I would give it 4 Paws, but I didn't get any cake. It was a long day and now I'm really tired. I'm going to sleep until dinner.

Grizzly Day 2010!

Today is the one year anniversary of when I came to live with my humans. They call it Grizzly Day. I was very excited for Grizzly Day because it is MY day so I had it all planned out. First I was going to go to the beach. Then I was going to go to the bank and Starbuck's for treats and a cup of water. Next I was going to the pet store to see Joe and get more treats. Then I was going to go to Rib Fest! I think it's so great that they are having Rib Fest on Grizzly Day. I was SO excited! Mmmmmmmm! I'll have the Kansas City Special, please! Mmmmmm! And honey mustard, and sweet and spicy, and mmmmmmm! One of everything, please!!

But that's not what happened. First, this morning I got only half my normal food for breakfast. WHAT!? I get LESS food on Grizzly Day?! What's good about that?! Then, my humans went to Jack's for breakfast WITHOUT ME! Huh?? I was starting to think that Grizzly Day really sucked.

Then when my humans came back from Jack's, they had a doggy bag with them. I could smell the pancakes as soon as they opened the door. My human made me Griddlycakes. Those are special pancakes just for me. They're silver dollar pancakes topped with peanut butter and chopped Canadian bacon and drizzled with molasses. MMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!! More, please!! I got three, but I could have eaten a dozen! MMMMMMM! Here's a picture of the Griddlycakes.

And here's a picture of me eating the Griddlycakes.

I tried to eat them all before my human could take a picture, but the peanut butter slowed me down.

Later I went for a walk. Is this when we go to Rib Fest? No. I didn't get to go to Rib Fest. My humans wouldn't take me. They said it was too hot. It was really hot out, but I wouldn't even notice the heat if I had ribs. I could smell them too. I don't know where they were, but they were close by.

My human says that the important thing about Grizzly Day is that it's the anniversary of my rescue. It's not the anniversary of my adoption day because I started out as a foster dog and my humans didn't decide to adopt me until I had been with them for almost two months. This is the picture my human saw of me in the email that said I needed rescue.

I was at Crawford County Humane Society.

Here's a picture of me on the first day that I came to live with my humans.

My fur was really matted and there were lots of ticks and stuff stuck in it. My tummy didn't feel good either. I was happy to be in a home, but I still didn't know what was going on. And they didn't tell me there would be stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. The next day my human took me to the groomer and he shaved all my fur. Here's a picture of me without fur.

It felt weird.

It took me a while to get used to my humans. But now I love my humans and I'm happy I live with them. Even if they don't take me to Rib Fest on Grizzly Day. Rib Fest goes on all weekend, so maybe they'll take me tomorrow…or Sunday. I think next year I'm going to ask if I can have Grizzly Day in the winter. Then at least I could have snow. That might even be better than ribs. Maybe. Ummm…yeah…maybe.

For dinner I got less food again. But then I had a peanut butter frozen dogurt for dessert. Mmmmmmmmm! Here's a picture of me eating my frozen dogurt.

I guess it was a pretty good day even without Rib Fest. But I'm pretty sure Rib Fest would have made it better.

Vet visit

Today I was really excited to go for a car ride, but then my human took me to the vet. I go to Family Pet Animal Hospital. I like going in and standing on the scale, but I don't like the rest of it. The floors are slippery and I got taken in the back room and they did stuff that I didn't like. I think if I met my vet in the park I would like her, but I don't like seeing her at the vet office. And they gave me a shot. I don't like shots. And now I'm not allowed to eat any kibble. I like kibble. Dog kibble, cat kibble. I like all of it, but now I'm not allowed. I give the vet 1 Paw but only because I think she's a nice person. I think I should get pancakes when I go to the vet. Then I might like it better. (My human wants me to give the vet more Paws because she says they are really good, but she isn't the one who got poked with needles and she doesn't have Paws, so she doesn't get to vote. If she wants to rate the vet then she should get her own blog.)

Restaurants

This morning my humans left me at home and went to Jack's Restaurant for breakfast. I've never been to Jack's because they don't allow dogs. I don't see why not. I went to a restaurant with my humans once. It was Charlie's Ale House in Andersonville. We sat outside. There wasn't room for me. When I tried to lie down I blocked the sidewalk and the tables were tiny and it was dirty under them so I spent a lot of time standing. We were there for a long time and then my humans ate and didn't even give me any. Not even one french fry. I like french fries. I like tater tots too. Mmmmmm! Tater tots! I think if I go to a restaurant I should be able to eat there and not be stuck under a little table or in the middle of the sidewalk. I give Charlie's Ale House 1 Paw but only because the waitress was nice. My humans brought home a doggy bag from Jack's and I got pancakes and bacon! Mmmmmmm! I like pancakes and bacon! You know what would be really good? Cheese pancakes and bacon! MMMMM!

This afternoon was really, really, REALLY hot out so I went to the beach. Mostly I just lay down in the water and barked at dogs and chased them to let them know it was my beach, but I also played with my new toy. Here's a picture of my new toy.

I give it 3 Paws. Then when we came home, my humans took me in the backyard and sprayed me with a hose! I don't get it. I'm already wet, why did they have to use a hose? I didn't like it.

That's all I did today because it was too hot to do anything else.
